Suo Herra mulle rohkeus katsoa sieluni rumuuteen. Sitä en voi kätkeä silmiltäsi edes valheen peitteeseen, sitä en voi kiertäen välttää niin kuin raatoa haisevaa, en leikata irti, ja syvälle merten pohjiin upottaa. Kuin perintötauti on rumuus sieluuni juurtunut pohjimpaan ja elämästäni muistoksi sen ruumiskirstuuni saan. Se on teettänyt mulla, kuin orjallaan, monen inhottavan työn. Ja unen se päästäni torjua saattaa pitkinä hetkinä yön kun pimeydessä se esille ryömii rintani päälle mun ja sormin luisevin, niljakkain, mua tarttuu kurkkuhun. Sen tahdon hukuttaa, liuottaa mun vereeni lämpöiseen. Suo Herra mulle rohkeus katsoa sieluni rumuuteen.
