by Heinrich von Veldeke (c1150 - c1184)
Translation by Will Vesper (1882 - 1962)

Seit die Sonne ihren lichten Schein
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Mittelhochdeutsch
Seit die Sonne ihren lichten Schein
vor der Kälte hat geneiget
und der kleine Vögelein
sommerliches Singen schweiget,
traurig ist das Herze mein;
denn es will nun Winter sein,
der uns seine Kraft erzeiget
an den Blumen, da man sieht
lichte Gluten
blaß verbluten;
davon mir geschieht
Leid, und Liebes flieht.
