Ich weiß nicht mehr wie alles kam,
Nur daß ich stummen Abschied nahm
Und stumm aus deinem Garten ritt
Und daß ich seither alle Qual
Der Eifersucht und Reue litt.

Und das ich trostlos mich vermaß,
Auf unsre Liebe allen Haß
Und allen feilen Hohn zu häufen,
Und daß ich dennoch heimlich ging
Mein Leid im Becher zu ersäufen.

Darüber rann die schnelle Zeit;
In lichten Schleiern jahreweit
Liegt unser Sommertraum dahinten,
Und ist nicht Tor noch Brücke mehr
Den Weg dahin zurück zu finden.
