by Nikoloz Baratashvili
Translation by Hans Bender (b. 1919)

Blau
Language: German (Deutsch)  after the Georgian (Kartuli)
Blau, das mir seit Knabenjahren
Schön vor allen Farben war,
Blau, einst über Lockenhaaren
Anfang meines Schauens war.

Heute, da des Lebens Garben
Tiefer beugen ihr Gewicht,
Opfere ich alle Farben
Gern dem klaren, blauen Licht.

Blau darf keine Perle schmücken,
Lieb am meisten blau allein,
Blaue Augen mich berücken
Und berauschen wie der Wein.

Blau, die Farbe meiner Träume,
Blau, die Farbe ferner Höhn,
Blaue unbekannte Säume,
Wo die Wolken untergehn.

Wenn ich sterbe, blaue Tränen
Weinen sie an meiner Truh.
Meiner Seele letztes Sehnen
Wandert blauen Sternen zu.

Über meinem Grab entblättern
Blaue Nebel Kranz und Strauch,
In des Namens Broncelettern
Krallt sich blauer Nebelhauch.
