by Alois Leopold Altmann (d. 1879)

Allruna im Thurme
Language: German (Deutsch)
Einsam in des Waldes Schatten
Wirkt die Seherin,
Gegenwart und Zukunft gatten
Sich in ihrem Sinn.

Ungetrübt in seiner Helle
Schaut das Leben sie,
Und des Treibens dunkle Welle
Stört ihr Walten nie.

Wer das Große will bezwingen,
Muß das Nied're flieh'n;
Nur im kräftevollen Ringen
Kann das Schöne blüh'n.

Nur durch tiefes, stilles Denken
Schafft der hohe Geist,
Er versteht die That zu lenken,
Daß die Zeit sie preis't.

Confirmed with Alois Leopold Altmann, Gedichte, Wien: Carl Gerold, 1843, page 170. An asterisk connects the word "Allruna" to the following note in this edition: "Allrunen, weise Frauen der Germanen; sie gaben sich mit Sterndeuterei und Prophezeiung ab, und standen bei den Ihrigen in sehr hohem Ansehen."
