by Augusta Mary Anne Holmès (1847 - 1903)

Vengeance!
Language: French (Français)
Français! assez de honte!
Soldats que rien ne dompte,
Criez au flot qui monte:
"Tu n'iras pas plus loin!"
Marchon! qu'on nous enrôle!
Sortons de notre geôle,
Le fusil sur l'épaule,
Le révolver au poing!

Pour tes champs ravagés,
Tes palais sccagés,
Tes drapeaux outragés,
O France!
Pour les mères en deuil,
Pour les fils au cerceuil,
Pour le sang sur le seuil,
Vengeance!

Que nos défis répondent
A leurs canons qui grondent,
Que leurs rangs se confondent
Devant notre courroux!
Voice les jours traqiques!
Citoyens héroiques,
Enfants des Républiques,
Lions! Reveillez-vous!

Et toi qui planes sur nos rangs,
O Liberté naissante!
A la défaite des tyrans,
Que ta douceur consente!
Bel Archange des nouveaux cieux,
Ta grande voix nous crie:
"Mourez, joyeux,
Pour la Patrie!"
