En sømand med et modigt bryst
kan aldrig fattes penge. 
Tab skærper kun hans vindelyst,
og armod er ham som en dyst,
der ej kan vare længe. 

Når søen plyndrer fra sin ven
og sætter ham på prøve,
da lér han kun og tvinger den
at bringe tifold det igen,
som den har turdet røve. 

Han sadler dristig havet op. 
så snart hans hjerte lyster,
og rider høj på bølgens top
i trav og susende galop
til guldbestrøede kyster. 

Fluks er han dér så rig, han vil,
og lystig som den rige,
og sætter bovenbramsejl til
og flyver glad med sang og spil
tilbage til sin pige.
