from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Cântec de haiducie
Language: Romanian (Română)
Sub poale de codru verde
O zare de foc se vede,
Iar la zarea focului
Stau haiducii codrului,
Nu stiu zece sau cincisprece
Ori peste suta mai trece,
Ci mi-si frige un berbece,
Dar nu-l frige cum se frige,
Ci-l infige in carlige
Si-l intoarce prin belciuge
Ca sa-i fie carnea dulce.
Sub umbra de paducel
Voinicii mananc din el
Si din gura zic astfel:
"Codre, codre infrunzit,
Tine-ma-n tine ferit,
Ca nimic nu ti-am stricat
Si nu ma simt vinovat:
În tine de cand intrai
Numai o creanga taiai,
Armele de-mi atarnai.
Le-as fi pus, codre, pe jos,
Dar pamantu-i umedos
Si fierul e ruginos.
Codre, codre, dusman esti!
Tu voinicii amagesti
Si de dusman nu-i feresti.
Cat esti, codre, de frunzos,
Iarna putrezesti tu jos
Si voinicii zac la gros!"
