by Joannes Reddingius (1873 - 1944)

't Is nu zoo stil, het houtvuur gloeit
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
't Is nu zoo stil, het houtvuur gloeit
en blanke kaarsen branden,
kom nu in schemer van droomenpracht
en neem mijn handen.

O laat mij zitten als kindje klein
heel dicht bij je zegenende handen,
mijn oogen zijn droog van heete pijn,
mijn oogen branden.

O doe mij verhalen, vreemd en bang,
van verre, vreemde landen,
O laat ons zitten, wang aan wang;
de kaarsen branden.

O kom tot mij in stillen nacht,
vol wonder van licht en luister;
de kaarsen branden, vredig-zacht,
in 't schemerende duister.
