Au rythme amoureux du mode Ionique,
Mollement couché, j'assouplis ma voix.
Éros, sur son cou nouant sa tunique,
Emplit en riant, échanson joyeux,
Ma coupe d'onyx d'un flot de vin vieux.
La vie est d'un jour sous le ciel antique ;
C'est un char qui roule au stade olympique.
Buvons, couronnés d'hyacinthe en fleurs !
À quoi bon verser les liqueurs divines
Sur le marbre inerte où sont nos ruines,
Ce peu de poussière insensible aux pleurs ?
Assez tôt viendront les heures cruelles,
Ô ma bien-aimée, et la grande Nuit
Où nous conduirons, dans l'Hadès, sans bruit,
La danse des Morts sur les asphodèles !
