by Christian Richardt (1831 - 1892)

Han var saa ung og modig
Language: Danish (Dansk)
Han var saa ung og modig,
Med Tro paa sig selv;
Hans Haab var en skummende,
Foraarsfreidig Elv.

Og alle Folk, de hviskede:
Hvor Han dog er lovende!
Det klang i hans Øre
Som Fuglesang i Skovene.

Og Nabo og Gjenbo
Gav Ham gjerne Prisen:
Han bliver til Noget!
Han kommer i Avisen!

Saa vilde han plukke
Den Krands, der var spaaet;
Han vilde være Ax,
Da han næppe var saaet.

Saa blev han til Noget,
Kun i Ingenting stor,
Noget af alt det Lidet,
Man kan blive paa Jord.

Og hvergang de hviskede:
Hvor Han dog var lovende!
Det klang i hans Øre
Som Øxehug i Skovene.

Ak, da han vandred did,
Hvor Natten er lang,
Da kom han i Avisen:
Det var den første Gang.
