De la flûte au cor
Language: French (Français)
Un cor murmure au fond des bois,
  Lointainement ;
Des flûtes, près du lac dormant,
  Comme des voix,
Douces, doubles, jasent à peine,
  En modulant
Des répons alternés que mène
  Un rythme lent.
L’une grave, l’autre plus claire
  Se mêle au cor,
Se ralentit ou s’accélère,
  Dans le soir d’or ;
Puis toutes deux croisent parfois
  Leurs jeux légers,
Comme sur leurs trous les bergers
  Croisent les doigts.
Elle chantent ainsi longtemps,
  Au fond du soir,
Leur doux chant double de printemps,
  D’aube et d’espoir ;
Puis confondant leur chanson cœur
  Qui tremble encore.
Meurent dans l’immense douceur
  Du cor sonore...
Et ces deux chants, l’un plus ardent,
  L’autre plus doux,
C'est nos âmes bu répondant
  Du fond de nous ;
C’est d’abord ton âme et la mienne
  Chantant à peine,
Et luttant d’abord comme lutte
  La double flûte ;
C’est ton âme douce de femme,
  Et c’est mon âme
Plus sonore et plus triste d’homme
  S’unissant comme
S’unissent parmi la rumeur
  Du cor éteint
Ces flûtes tendres dont se meurt
  L’accord lointain.
