by Jean Pierre Claris de Florian (1755 - 1794)

Amitié, reprends ton empire
Language: French (Français)
Amitié, reprends ton empire
Sur l'aveugle dieu des [amans]1!
Dans la jeunesse il peut suffire;
Tu rends heureux dans tous les temps.
Il fait naitre une vive flamme,
Tu formes un tendre lien:
Il n'est que le plaisir de l'áme,
Et toi seule en es le soutien.

Quand d'amour la flèche cruelle
Vient frapper un sensible coeur,
La tendre amitié lui rappelle
La paix, le repos, le bonheur,
Lui donne un plaisir plus durable,
Malgré lui l'arrache au danger,
Et, sans en étre moins aimable,
L'avertit de ne plus aimer.
