Vom zukünftigen Brudermann
Language: German (Deutsch)
Our translations:  ENG
Höret all' ihr braven Kinder!
Bald kommt noch ein Kindchen an.
Wollt' ein Schwesterchen ihr lieber,
Oder einen Brudermann,
Einen lieben Brudermann?

"Lieber hätt' ich eine Schwester!"
Ruft der kleine Gottfried aus.
In dem Korb allein das Hähnchen
Blieb der Gottfried gern im Haus.
Drum lasst mir den Bruder draus!

Aber Adelheid und Hannchen
Schreien beid: "ein Brüderlein!"
Kinderchen, hört auf zu zanken;
Sei's ein Knab', ein Mägdelein,
Soll es uns willkommen sein.

Note: Gottfried, Johanna (Hannchen), and Adelheid were the names of Johanna Kinkel's children. The expected child turned out to be a boy (Hermann).
