Flüchtig vergehet,
Also verwehet
Unserer Jugend holdseligster Traum.
 
Lacht auch der Tag noch mit lockender Pracht,
Unseren Bahnen,
Ehe wir's ahnen,
Sinket hernieder die schweigende Nacht.
 
Liebend nur hüllet in Schlaf uns der Tod,
Dass wir nicht schauen
Nächtiges Grauen,
Er ist der Retter, der Freund in der Noth.
 
Leise doch wallet die göttliche Hand,
Trägt zu der Ferne,
Leuchtender Sterne,
Unsere Seele in's himmlische Land.
