Die Bäuerin steigt im besten Staat hinan die verwetzten Stufen, die liebe Mutter vom guten Rat um Hilfe anzurufen. Ihr Knäblein tat einen bösen Tritt und kann seitdem nicht gehen. Maria, die selber so viel litt, soll huldvoll niedersehen. Sie hebt das Kindlein zum Altar, sie will es fast erzwingen. Maria, die selber Mutter war, muss ihr doch Hilfe bringen! Und siehe, das kranke Kindlein schaut so friedlich wie lang' schon nimmer; in seinen ruhigen Augen blaut unirdisch ein ferner Schimmer. Es hebt die Händchen glücklich umsonnt zum Jesukind voll Verlangen. Es hat auf einmal gehen gekonnt und ist in den Himmel gegangen. Zwei Mütter sprechen ganz allein mitsammen von Schmerz und Erhebung, die eine in goldenem Glorienschein, die and're in stiller Ergebung.
