In der Birke droben singt es, Unten an der Mauer klingt es, Hier der Bursche, dort der Star, Jeder bringt sein Ständchen dar. Girrend, wie's in tausend Zungen Schon von Alters her erklungen: "Komm, o komm, geliebte Maid, Unser Nestchen ist bereit!" Mutter Sonne lauscht der Weise, Lauscht vergnügt und lächelt leise: "Alte süße Narrerei! -- Ja, man merkt's: es wurde Mai!"
