Dit pastoreelken wilde ik nog zingen 
van roekedekoeënde, sneeuwwitte duiven. 
Met rond hun halsken purpere ringen 
trippeltrapten zij tusschen mijn' druiven. 
 
Fier liet Heer Doffer den pauwstaert wuiven, 
naar 't wijfken zag ik hem heimlik dringen... - 
- Dit pastoreelken wilde ik nog zingen 
van roekedekoënde, sneeuwwitte duiven! 
 
Hoog zwelt hem de krop; de veeren struiven 
omhoog, en beurtelings kleppen de zwingen... 
- Pas trekkebekten de lievelingen 
toen 't loof zijn' sluier er vóor kwam schuiven... 
- Dit pastoreelken wilde ik nog zingen!
