Aftonrodnan
Language: Swedish (Svenska)
Ren en solen sunkit bakom bergen,
Men aftonrodnan flammar der
Så skön ännu i purpurfärgen,
Och morgondaggens budskap bär.

Så sjunker lifvets fröjd, men Hoppet
Oss lyser än i qvalens natt,
Och bådar, efter vandringsloppet,
En högre, oförgänglig skatt.

Det längtansfulla hjertat trånar
Till aningens fördolda land,
Och fantasiens vingar lånar
Men fjettras qvar af tankans band.

Hvar vill du fly? Bland jordens dimmor,
Förmätua! är din blick för svag.
Se Aftonroduans gyldne strimmor,
Och hoppas på en morgondag.

F. Berwald sets stanzas 1, 3
