by Virgínia Victorino (1898 - 1967)

Meia‑noite
Language: Portuguese (Português)
Começaram as horas a cair;
uma, duas... Virá? Vem, com certeza.
E eu, comovida, assim como quem reza,
cá vou contando as horas, a sorrir.

E três, e quatro... cinco... E ele sem vir!
Se não vem, será prova de frieza?
Seis... sete... - Não será! - Mas aqui presa,
sem saber nada, sem poder sair!...

Oito... nove... Mentiu. Onde estará?
Sinto passos. É ele quem vem lá!
Enganei-me... Não sei... Não é ninguém.

Dez... onze... Mas meu Deus, tanta demora!
A minh'alma sucumbe, treme, chora...
Meia-noite... Acabou-se! Já não vem.
