by Christian Adolf Overbeck (1755 - 1821)

Daphne am Bach
Language: German (Deutsch)
  Göttin Liebe,
Wie so bang' und trübe
Fließt dies Bächlein hin!
  Ach so trübe
Fließt, so bang' o Liebe,
Meines Lebens Bächlein hin!

  Mondeshelle
Labt die kleine Welle
Dieses Bächleins oft.
  Nur vergebens
Hat noch meines Lebens
Bächlein Licht und Trost gehoft.

  Blümlein klagen
In zu schwülen Tagen
Den versiegten Bach.
  O wer klaget,
Wenn ein Mädchen zaget,
Einem armen Mädchen nach?

  Wüsten trinken,
Wenn die Bächlein winken,
Gern die Bächlein ein.
  O ich winke!
Todeswüste, trinke
Mein versiegend Leben ein!
