by Karl Johann Philipp Spitta (1801 - 1859)

O wende den Strahl deines Auges
Language: German (Deutsch)
O wende den Strahl deines Auges
noch einmal nach mir hin!
Viel tausend Liebesgedanken,
die fand ich einstens darin.

Jetzt spiegelt in diesem Sterne
sich Hoheit und stolzes Glück;
auf meine blutende Seele
fällt kaltes Vergessen zurück.

Und dennoch fasst mich ein Sehnen
in meinem trostlosen Leid,
den Blick tief zu versenken
in die dunkle Herrlichkeit.

O wende noch einmal dein tiefes,
dein herrliches Auge mir her;
ich hab' ja mein Herz verloren
in diesem unendlichen Meer!
