from Volkslieder (Folksongs)

Kindergebet
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wenn die Kindlein schlafen gehn,
an dem Bett zwei Englein stehn,
decken sie zu und decken sie auf,
haben liebend ihr Auge darauf.

Wenn dann auf die Kindlein stehen,
beide Engel schlafen gehn,
reicht nicht mehr der Englein Wacht,
Gott hält selber nun die Wacht.

Lieber Gott und Engelein,
laßt mich fromm und gut doch sein,
laßt mir doch mein Hemdelein
recht bald werden viel zu klein.
