Was hab' ich armes Kind gethan, Was sehen mich so spöttisch an Die Leute auf den Gassen? Und wenn er treulos mich verließ, Und wenn sein Schwur sich falsch erwies, - Ich hab' ihn nicht verlassen. Verzeih' es ihnen, lieber Gott, Sie wissen nicht, wie tief ihr Spott Mir in die Seele schneidet; Sie ahnen nicht den bittern Schmerz, Den dieses arme, arme Herz Um Lieb' und Treue leidet.
