by Georg von Schultz , as Dr. Bertram

Das ferne Land
Language: German (Deutsch)
Traget mich, schwankende Wellen,
über die Tiefe geschwind;
dort zu den Inseln, den hellen,
führe mich, schwellender Wind!

Dort in den sonnigen Fernen
lockt mich ein schönerer Strand;
glänzender leuchten die Sterne
in dem glückseligen Land.

Mild ist das Feuer der Sonne,
tiefer das himmlische Blau;
Land voll unendbarer Wonne,
gleichst der holdseligsten Frau.

Und in den rauschenden Bäumen
tönt es wie Geistergesang;
ach, zu den herrlichsten Träumen
zieht mich unendlicher Drang!

Hin zu dem fröhlichen,
hin zu dem seligen
fernen Land!

Note: in Henselt's score, there is a misprint in stanza 2, line 3, which reads in the manuscript "glänzender leuchtender Sterne", but The Ten Cent “Ten Little Injuns” Songster, New York, De Witt, 1869, page 71 has the above correction and mentions this song.
