Thränen

Ich habe nur wenig, nur dreimal geweint,
So lange die Sonne des Lebens mir scheint,

Das erste Mal: wild, gellend und laut,
Da hatt' ich mir selbst zu viel zugetraut.

Dann rollten heimliche Thränen herab,
Da stand ich vor meines Vaters Grab.

Das dritte Mal bog ich die Stirn zur Hand,
Mir hat kein Tropfen im Auge gebrannt.

Wir beide konnten uns nicht verstehn,
Wir mußten stumm von einandergehn.

Und das ungesprochene Abschiedswort,
Das weint im Herzen auch heute noch fort.
