by Friedrich Nessler (1806 - 1879)

Mitgefühl
Language: German (Deutsch)
Ein Vogel auf dem Baume
Vor meinem Fensterlein
Weckt mich aus schwerem Traume
Bei stillem Mondenschein.

Wenn alle Stimmen schweigen
Und keine Seele wacht,
Sitzt er versteckt in Zweigen
Und klagt die ganze Nacht.

Er singt so schöne Lieder
Von Wunden, die da schlägt
Die Trennung, als errieth' er
All', was mein Herz bewegt!

O Vöglein, ich verstehe
Dein Lied und deine Noth,
Gewiß du klagst dein Wehe,
Dein Liebster auch ist todt!

Confirmed with Pfeffel-Album: Gaben elsässischer Dichter, Leipzig: Franz Wagner, 1859. page 118.
