by Adolf Friedrich, Graf von Schack (1815 - 1894)

Auf den Feldern dumpfe Schwüle
Language: German (Deutsch)
Auf den Feldern dumpfe Schwüle
Und verhüllter Sonnenbrand;
Durstend schmettert die Cikade,
Langsam nur mit trägem Rade
Wirft die wasserarme Mühle
Einzle Tropfen an den Strand.

Wetterschwere Lüfte brüten
Ueberm regungslosen See;
Tiefre Klagelaute schallen
Aus der Brust der Nachtigallen,
In den Kelchen, in den Blüten
Duftet ein geheimes Weh.

Fiebernd schmachtet, schlummertrunken,
Aber schlaflos doch, die Flur;
Unstet zucken Flammenblitze
Um der Wetterstangen Spitze;
In ihr finstres Selbst versunken
Liegt die träumende Natur.

Komm, Gewittersturm, entlade
Den verhaltnen Erdenschmerz;
Deinem Donner, deinem Regen
Lechzt, was Leben hat, entgegen;
Durstend schmettert die Cikade,
Aber durst'ger ist mein Herz!
