Vorm Walde die Blumen, sie merkten's zuerst,
dann sahen's die Sterne, dass lieb du mir wärst,
dann spürte dein Auge in meinem den Schmerz,
und endlich, ach endlich erlauscht es dein Herz.

Ihr Blumen, ihr Sterne, ihr dünkt euch so klug,
Spüräuglein, Lauschherzlein, wisst all nicht genug:
Wie lieb ich sie habe, wird nimmer euch licht,
ich selber, ich fühl' es und fass' es doch nicht.

Und endlich es ewig nur Einer ermisst,
der Gott, der ein Vater der Liebenden ist;
der Gott, dem du betest, auch betest für mich,
der Vater der Liebe, er segne dich!
