by Johann Martin Hutterus (1810 - 1865)

Im Felde
Language: German (Deutsch)
Sah ich sonst im Frühlingshauch
Sich die Halme neigen,
Und darüber himmelwärts
Eine Lerche steigen,

Hing an ihre Schwingen sich
Jubelnd meine Seele,
Daß an Licht und Sonnenschein
Ihre Kraft sich stähle.

Schwing', o Lerche, schwinge dich
Auf in alle Weiten --
Ach, nur sinnend kann ich noch
Deinen Flug begleiten.

Wohl wird meine Seele sich
Einmal noch erheben,
Aber nur, um wie ein Rauch
Spurlos zu verschweben.

Confirmed with Deutsches Museum, ed. by Robert Prutz, Leipzig: F. A. Brockhaus, 1862. Appears in issue no. 33, dated 14 August 1862, page 267.
