Früh bin ich zu Wald gezogen durch die Heiden, übers Moor, 
Nachtgewölk war rings verflogen, und die Sonne brach hervor.
Just als ich im stillen Neste traf die Nachtigallenfrau,
Brach der Goldstrahl durchs Geäste in den jungen Liebesbau. 

Leis' und flink aus Busch und Blättern huscht herzu der Gatte da,
Und mit Flöten, Wirbeln, Schmettern jauchzt er sein Hallelujah.
Singe nur!  sei unbeklommen, all' mein Wesen jubeln mit:
Übern Waldweg hör' ich's kommen, und ich kenne diesen Schritt!
