Im Mondesglanze

Ich sah es heut' im Mondesglanze,
wo sich am Wehr die Wasser stau'n,
da wiegten sich in leichtem Tanze
die wundersamen Wasserfrau'n.

Die wundersamen, bleichen Frauen,
mit Augen, dunkel wie die Nacht;
es fasste mich ein seltsam Grauen
ob ihrer Schönheit Zaubermacht.

Durchs Laubwerk flimmerten die Wellen
und rauschten leis' ihr ew'ges Lied;
behüt' der Himmel den Gesellen,
der einsam hier des Weges zieht!
