by Albrecht Rodenbach (1856 - 1880)

De zwane
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Des hemels spiegel, mild en frisch,
de lucht in 't ronde lavend,
daar ligt de vijver maagdelik schoon
in stillen zomeravond.

En kalm in haren avondlust,
bij 't zoet gesching der mane,
ligt langzaam drijvend op het meer
de droomerige zwane.

De dichterlike vogel mint
het maagdelike water,
en baadt wellustig, spiegelt, drinkt,
aanhoort het lief geklater.

En onbewust bemint hem 't meer
en streelt zijn blanke veder,
en klatert zacht en spiegelt hem
zoo teêr zijn beeltnis weder.

Doch weiger en bescheiden in
bewondering verslonden,
nooit heeft des vogels reine min
die maagdelikheid geschonden.

[Zoo dichtte ik - doch voor mij aleen,
onschuldig kind - den avond
dat gij mij spraakt, zoo onbewust
een dichterziele lavend.]

weiger = niet vrijgevig, omzichtig.

Confirmed with Albrecht Rodenbach, Gedichten. Deel 2 (ed. Ferdinand Rodenbach). J. Lannoo, Thielt z.j. [1930] p.39
