Het Vlaamsche heer staat immer pal,
daar 't winnen of daar 't sterven zal:
alhier, aldaar, aan lange lansen,
de leeuwen dansen.
 
De winden schudden, met geweld,
de zwarte blomme in 't geluw veld;
de kwaden zien, beneên hun transen,
de leeuwen dansen.
 
Met bezemen, zoo kwamen ze af,
om 't Vlaamsche Volk, als ijdel kaf,
dat 't zweerd onweerd is, af te ransen.
De leeuwen dansen!
 
Harop! Harop! De trompe steekt;
de boeien los, de banden breekt!
Ten vijande in! Dat, op z'n schansen,
de leeuwen dansen!
 
Sta vuist en voet de vane omtrent!
En, gij, die God noch eere en kent,
ruimt bane, eer, op uw' veege bansen,
de leeuwen dansen!
