by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

Geen blijder stonde
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Geen blijder stonde leven
en mocht ik, sedert lang,
als die mij komt te geven
uw brief en uw gezang!
Ja, de Engel der '[Poësij]1'
die bidt, die zingt, die maalt,
is weêr bij u gerezen
of... nimmer neêrgedaald;
ja, de Engel der 'Poësij'
die bidt, die maalt, die zingt,
diens harpe moet het wezen
die zulke [accoorden]2 klinkt;
ja, de Engel der 'Poësij'
die zingt, die maalt, die bidt,
die Engel is 't, de deze,
die in uw' zangen zit!
Doet voort, en houdt den Degen
bij Cyther en Palet,
want niemand kander tegen
't al stormende Gebed.
