by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

De zonne alreede is opgestaan
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
   Jam lucis orto sidere.

De zonne alreede is opgestaan,
den Heere laat ons bidden gaan,
opdat wij, tot den avondzang,
volherden vrij van zonde, en vrank.

Hij breidele onze tongen wel,
zoo'n zal geen tweedracht twisten fel;
Hij wende ons af van elk aanschouw,
dat 't licht der oogen schaden zou.

Ons herte zij van binnen reen,
't en zitte onwerkzaam nooit geen een;
getemd zij 't vleesch: ontembaar is 't,
dat nimmer ate of drank en mist.

Wanneer het licht omnedergaat,
en weêr de nacht vol sterren staat,
zoo zullen 's Heeren lof wij toen,
van zonden vrij, weêr galmen doen.

Zij God den Vader lof en eer,
zij God den Zoon lof, immermeer;
zij God den Heiligen Geest gezeid
lof, eere en dank, in de eeuwigheid!
