by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

Oneindig goed is God
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
Oneindig goed is God,
oneindig krank de menschen,
die, zuchtend, op der aard
den weg des Hemels gaan!
Hoe kon ik, zonder troost,
den zwaren last der wenschen,
verdragen die 'k mijn hert
voel dwingen langs de baan!
Een spijze is mij gejond,
een kelk is mij geschonken,
vol kracht des heiligen Geests,
vol godlijk voedend licht;
ik heb dat brood genut,
ik heb dien kelk gedronken,
en, hopend, houde ik voort
mijn ooge op God gericht.
