by Guido (Pieter Theodoor Jozef) Gezelle (1830 - 1899)

O vlaamsche held, die honderden
Language: Dutch (Nederlands)
O vlaamsche held, die honderden,
geheiligd door uw' hand,
met ons hiet evenkersten zijn,
in 't verre en 't vreemde land;

O Vlaming, die, ter dood getrouw
aan God, aan zede en taal,
uw eigen volk liet de erfenis
van uwen zegepraal;

blijft werken, nog, en wekt in ons
een vonksken van de vlam
die 't heidendom in brande stak,
die u het leven nam!

Blijft werken nog, en, won den loon
uw' nooit vermoeide hand,
zij werve en wende er meer van ons
naar 't vreemde en 't verre land!

Dan blijft het dierbaar pleksken grond,
dat zulke mannen droeg,
zijn' waarlijk vlaamsche kinderen
toch immer groot genoeg!
