Des Maien Briefe
Language: German (Deutsch)
Frohe Botschaft, frohe Botschaft
Ist uns kommen über Nacht:
Schwalben haben uns vom Maien
Liebe Briefe mitgebracht.

Schon an Ecken deiner Fenster
Fliegen treu sie aus und ein.
Willst die neuen Briefe hören?
Tritt hinaus, lieb' Herzelein.

An den Bergen, an den Brunnen
Freude fährt mit lautem Schall,
Auf der Linde schwanken Zweigen
Wiegend liest die Nachtigall.

Horchend quellen grüne Läuber,
Blumen springen leis und still.
Liebe komm und laß uns hören,
Was er uns verkünden will.

Confirmed with Gedichte eines fahrenden Schülers, herausgegeben von Wilhelm Wackernagel, Berlin: Fr. Laue, 1828. Appears in Vermischte Gedichte, page 26.
