by August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben (1798 - 1874)

Die kleine Maria
Language: German (Deutsch)
Wie die Blum' in ihrer Dolde,
wie der Edelstein im Golde
ruhst du, Kindlein, wohlgemut
in der Liebe Pfleg' und Hut.

Weinen magst du oder lachen,
schlafen magst du oder wachen,
um dich hält die Liebe Wacht,
Tag für Tag und Nacht für Nacht.

Und wir seh'n an deinem Frieden,
was der Himmel dir beschieden:
Vater, Mutter, liebes Kind,
die so gut und glücklich sind.

Und du lächelst, wenn sie fragen,
und es ist, als wollt'st du sagen:
Ja, ich ruhe wohlgemut
in der Liebe Pfleg' und Hut.
