by P. Johannes Baptista Diel S. J. (1843 - 1876)

Einst rauschten mir die Wälder
Language: German (Deutsch)
Einst rauschten mir die Wälder
In stiller Einsamkeit,
Die Vögel Lieder sangen --
Das war vor langer Zeit.

Da stand im Wetterleuchten
Ich auf den Bergeshöh'n,
Sah durch die frischen Thäler
Den Rheinstrom blitzend geh'n.

Und Frühling war im Herzen,
Und Frühling überall,
Es war ein helles Klingen,
Ein froher Wiederhall.

Das liegt nun in der Ferne,
Ach Gott, so weit, so weit!
Wohl ist es Frühling worden,
Doch jetzt ist and're Zeit.
