by Albert Geiger (1866 - 1915)

S'ist die Nachtigall nicht
Language: German (Deutsch)
Weiß nicht, was vom Schlafe
Mich plötzlich erweckt.
Ist es die Nachtigall,
In den Pappeln versteckt?

In den Pappeln am Wasser,
Das so schwarz und so tief,
Schlägt oft sie leise,
Wenn Alles entschlief.

Meinen müden Augen
War der Schlaf doch so gut.
O du böse Nachtigall,
Die mich aufwecken tut!

'S ist die Nachtigall nicht,
Die den Schlummer dir kränkt.
Fern seufzte der Liebste,
Der dein gedenkt.

Confirmed with Albert Geiger, Duft, Farbe, Ton, Karlsruhe: A. Bielefeld's Hofbuchhandlung (Liebermann & Cie.), 1894, page 15. Appears in subgroup roman numeral I [no subgroup title], no. 5.
