Comme, à l'heure où tout dort, dans la salle déserte,
Où l'invisible essor des rythmes se concerte,
Les mornes instruments, nocturnes pèlerins,
Harpes et violons, cymbales, tambourins,
Contrebasses, altos, tout l'orchestre- silence,
Dont le rêve inquiet la nuit au loin s'élance,
Parfois, pour un accord passant d'un lent frisson,
S'ébranlent et, pieux, vibrent à l'unisson :
Ainsi, de l'océan barques désemparées,
Les âmes, par l'espace et le temps séparés,
Peuvent, à certains mots que prononce un esprit
Pour un ordre entendu dans leur sommeil flétri,
Un souffle qui les frôle en sa lente caresse,
Sentir toutes ensemble un élan qui les dresse,
Toutes ensemble aimer, espérer, s*attendrir,
Ensemble ayant souffert, ensemble se guérir !
