 a los sepulcros de los reyes egipcios,
 entre el rumor de los bellos bosques de palmeras;
 ahora en el valle de Rosetta ve
 a las palomas construir su nido, 
 y escucha a los cisnes, blancos como la nieve, 
 que orgullosos atraviesan el lago Moeris. 
 ¡Qué espectáculo! ¡Ningún ojo humano
 ha visto un país de tal magnificencia!
 Pero un terrible silencio
 reina en estos celestes campos, 
 y con su venenoso aliento 
 recorre la peste aquel país.

  Por vuestra primera caída,
 cuán duramente expiáis, míseros, 
 y si aún tenéis algunas flores del Edén,
