Ik wendde mij en kreeg in ‘t oog
allen die onrecht lijden op deze aarde;
En zie toch, hen zag ik tranen wenen
die onrecht leden; zij hadden geen vertrooster.
En zij die hen onrecht deden waren zo machtig, 
dat zij geen vertrooster krijgen konden.
 
Toen noemd’ ik rijk de doden, 
die al gestorven waren,
meer dan de nog levenden,
die nog het leven hadden.
En die nog niet is heeft ‘t beter dan beide and’ren;
die het boze niet kennen leert
dat onder de zon hier geschiedt.
