Liedesend

Language: German (Deutsch)

Auf seinem goldnen Throne
Der graue König sitzt -
[Er]1 starret in die Sonne,
Die roth [im]2 Westen blitzt.

Der [Sänger]3 rührt die Harfe,
Sie rauschet Siegessang;
Der Ernst jedoch, der scharfe,
Er trotzt dem vollen Klang.

Nun stimmt er süße Weisen,
An's Herz sich klammernd an:
Ob er ihn nicht mit leisen
Versuchen mildern kann.

[Vergeblich]4 ist sein Mühen,
Erschöpft des Liedes Reich -
Und auf der Stirne ziehen
Die Sorgen [wettergleich]5.

Der Barde, tief erbittert,
Schlägt [seine]6 Harf' entzwey,
Und durch die [Halle]7 zittert
Der Silbersaiten Schrey.

[Doch]8 wie auch Alle beben,
Der Herrscher zürnet nicht;
Der Gnade Strahlen schweben
Auf seinem Angesicht.

»Du wolle mich nicht zeihen
Der Unempfindlichkeit:
In lang verblühten Mayen
Wie hast du mich erfreut!

Wie jede Lust gesteigert,
Die aus der Urne fiel!
Was mir ein Gott [verweigert]9,
Erstattete dein Spiel.

Vom kalten Herzen gleitet
[Nun]10 Liedeszauber ab;
Und immer näher [schreitet]11
Vergänglichkeit und Grab.«

La fi del cant

Language: Catalan (Català) after the German (Deutsch)

Al seu tron daurat
seu trist el rei –
ell esguarda el sol que,
vermell, resplendeix a ponent.

El bard toca l’arpa
fent sonar un cant de victòria;
la rigorosa seriositat
però, contradiu la seva tonalitat.

Adés, fa sonar dolces melodies
que puguin arribar més al cor;
per veure si amb aquest modulat
intent el pot assuaujar.

En va és però el seu afany,
i s’exhaureix el reialme del cant,
al front del rei planen els tribulls
com núvols de tempesta.

El bard, profundament exasperat,
trenca l’arpa en dos trossos,
i vibra per tota la sala
el xiscle de les cordes d’argent.

Però, tot i que tothom tremola,
el sobirà no està pas enutjat;
raigs de clemència
planen al seu rostre.

“Tu no em pots acusar
de ser insensible;
en mesos de maig, marcits de fa temps,
com m’has fet gaudir!

Com s’enlairava tot el goig
que vessava de l’urna del destí!
El que un déu em denegà,
m’ho restituí la teva actuació.

Ara la màgia del cant
s’esmuny d’un cor àlgid,
i més que mai s’avancen
la caducitat i la tomba.”
