Den Tag hindurch nur einmahl mag ich sprechen,
Gewohnt zu schweigen immer, und zu trauern:
[Wann]1 durch die nachtgebornen Nebelmauern
Aurorens Purpurstrahlen liebend brechen.

Für Menschenohren sind es Harmonien.
Weil ich die Klage selbst melodisch künde,
Und durch der Dichtung Gluth das Rauhe ründe,
Vermuthen sie in mir ein selig Blühen.

In mir - nach dem des Todes Arme langen,
In dessen tiefstem Herzen Schlangen wühlen;
Genährt von meinen schmerzlichen Gefühlen -
Fast wüthend durch ein ungestillt Verlangen:

Mit dir, des Morgens Göttin, mich zu einen,
Und weit von diesem nichtigen Getriebe,

Durant tot el dia només puc parlar una sola vegada,
habituat a estar sempre en silenci i al planyiment:
quan, a través dels murs de boira formats per la nit,
els raigs purpuris de l’Aurora trenquen amorosament.

Per a orelles humanes són harmonies.
I perquè jo proclamo melodiosament el meu plany
i, mitjançant el fervor de la poesia, arrodoneixo el que és bast,
es pensen que en mi hi ha un joiós floriment.

En mi, després que els braços de la mort m’han abastat
i que al fons del cor furguen les serps;
nodrit per els meus dolorosos sentiments,
quasi furiós per un insaciable desig:

d’unir-me amb tu, deessa del matí,
i lluny d’aquest fútil enrenou,
de les esferes de la noble llibertat, de les esferes de l’amor pur,
resplendir com un estel pàl•lid i silent.
