Nachtgesang

Language: German (Deutsch)

Tiefe Feyer
Schauert um die Welt.
Braune Schleyer
Hüllen Wald und Feld.
Trüb und matt und müde
Nickt jedes Leben ein,
Und namenloser Friede
Umsäuselt alles Seyn!

Wacher Kummer,
Verlaß ein Weilchen mich!
Goldner Schlummer,
Komm und umflügle mich!
Trockne meine Thränen
Mit deines Schleyers Saum,
Und täusche, Freund, mein Sehnen,
Mit deinem schönsten Traum.

Blaue Ferne,
Hoch über mich erhöht!
Heil'ge Sterne,
In hehrer Majestät!
Sagt mir, ist es stiller,
Ihr Funkelnden, bey euch,
Als in der Eitelkeiten
Aufruhrvollem Reich?

Chant nocturne

Language: French (Français) after the German (Deutsch)

Une profonde solennité
Frémit autour du monde.
Un voile brun
Enveloppe la forêt et les champs.
Terne, lasse et fatiguée,
Chaque vie s'assoupit,
Et une paix sans nom
Murmure autour de tous les êtres !

Chagrin qui veille,
Laisse-moi un petit moment !
Sommeil doré,
Viens et entoure-moi de tes ailes !
Sèche mes larmes
Avec l'ourlet de ton voile,
Et trompe mon désir, ami,
Avec ton plus beau rêve.

Bleu lointain,
Élève-toi haut au-dessus de moi !
Étoiles saintes,
Dans votre noble majesté,
Dites-moi, est-ce plus silencieux,
Étincelantes, là vous êtes,
Que dans les vanités
De ce royaume agité ?
