Mein Falke
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG FRE
O Sehnsucht, wilder Falke mein,
Willst du auch müde werden?
Dess' Heimath hoch im Blauen war,
Behagt's dir nun auf Erden?
Wie oft hast du den jungen Sinn
Aus diesen grauen Tagen
Hoch über Sorge, Noth und Leid
Getragen.
Bis mir das dunkle Thal entschwand
In märchenweiter Ferne
Und um mein glühend Haupt sich bog
Das Diadem der Sterne.
Nun beugst auch du die stolze Stirn
Und läßt die Flügel hangen,
Nun hat auch dich die Sorgenfrau
Gefangen.
Brich deine Fesseln, Wanderfalk,
Und hebe dein Gefieder --
Siehst du die Sterne droben glüh'n,
Hörst du die süßen Lieder?
Es ist die Heimath, die uns ruft,
Sie lockt in Lust und Wonne,
Steig auf mit hellem Jubelschrei
Zur Sonne!

My falcon
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
Oh yearning, wild falcon of mine,
Are you too growing weary?
[You,] whose homeland was high up in the blue of heaven,
Are you now content upon this earth?
How often have you my young spirit
From out of these grey days
High above anxiety, distress, and sorrow,
Carried.
Until the dark valley vanished
Into an expanse as far away as a fairy tale,
And about my glowing brow curved
The diadem of the stars.
Now you, too, are bending low your proud brow
And are letting your wings hang down,
Now the woman of worries has you as well
Captured.
Break your bonds, wandering falcon,
And lift your pinions --
Do you see the stars glowing above,
Do you hear the sweet songs?
It is our homeland that calls us,
It is luring us in joy and bliss;
Rise up with a bright cry of rejoicing
To the sun!
