Ein grünes Fleckchen
Language: German (Deutsch)
Available translation(s): ENG
Verschneit noch alle Felder,
Und scharf und rauh der Wind;
So stumm noch alle Wälder,
Und jeder Zweig noch blind!
Nur hier am Waldessaume,
Wo früh der Schnee zerthaut,
Blickt an mich, wie im Traume,
Ein grünes Fleckchen traut.
O! wie mir gleich so wonnig
Das Herz im Leibe lacht,
Als ob der Frühling sonnig
Schon wär' im Land erwacht!
Und hilft mir musicieren
Auch noch kein Vögelein:
Doch muß ich jubilieren
Laut in den Wald hinein!

A little spot of green
Language: English  after the German (Deutsch)
All the fields are still covered with snow,
And the wind is sharp and rough;
All the forests are still so mute,
And every branch still blind!
Only here along the edge of the woods,
Where the snow melts early,
As in a dream, there gazes at me
A dear little spot of green.
Oh! how my heart immediately
Laughs so blissfully within me,
As if sunny springtime
Had already woken in the land!
And though no birdlet yet helps
Me to make music:
Nevertheless I must send my rejoicing cry
Loudly into the forest!
